Thailand: The Land of Instant Coffee.

Fresh Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee or Nescafe?

With the "coffee kit" pictured, on the right below, enjoy a real cup of coffee instead of Nescafe in your hotel restaurant.

I carry 'gourmet' (?) grounds  & a plastic #2 filter drip set, available in most US groceries & 'sometimes' at Lotus Stores in Thailand.   Then all I need need is hot water from a tea pot.  Most hotels can supply a 'Tea Pot' for hot water in your room.

Jamaica Blue Mountain is available at the Emporium or Food Land Soi 5 .. + Food Land has Half & Half. 

Both the Emporium & Food Land have coffee from 300 Tbt per kilo up to 3000 Thb per Kilo.

Even Thai Coffee Shops usually serve Nescafe! 4 star hotels will have instant in 'decadent silver looking' coffee service pitchers .. really! Unbelievable but true .. Nescafe is almost guaranteed any where in Thailand. Nescafe ( instant ) is all that is available in 95% ( 99%? ) of Thailand! McDonalds has brewed! Brewed coffee in Styrofoam is better than Nescafe in china.  !! Starbucks are present in Tourist Areas. For the price of a gourmet meal ( or 3 ) you can get a cup of coffee. Convenience stores are 'everywhere' & have sugar, milk & bottled water but no coffee. If you need 'Hazelnut non-dairy creamer' or 'no fat 1/2 & 1/2'  you're on your own! :-o Even coffee grounds will take searching.   Larger groceries, like Foodland Soi 5, catering to westerners will generally have coffee beans / grounds. Robinson's ( several in BKK ) has limited coffee selection. Rural areas will NOT have brewing materials.   A convenient place to find higher tech 'coffee makers' (remember Thai 220 electric) & gourmet coffee is the Emporium Department Store ( in 3rd floor food court ) on Sukhumvit Rd.

• The Emporium has "it's own Sky Train stop", Phrom Phong Station, between Sukhumvit Soi 22 - 24.

  • It's a huge complex.

  • Enter store from sky train & go to elevator,  Exit left from the 3rd floor elevator, turn right & you are facing a complete & wide ranging assortment of coffee makers.

  • Coffee beans are in the grocery section, back left corner same floor, 3.  The beans are past all the 'food court vendors'.

  • They will actually brew you a cup with your choice bean  & brewing method, to help with your choice of bean.

  • Two (!) varieties of Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee + assorted South American, African & Asian coffees.

• 'Kupa' ( a beautiful 'European style bistro' ) on Sukhumvit Soi 16, 2 blocks from Suk / Asok, is a stylish

  • 'European feel' coffee shop with assorted beans & brewing methods.

  • Kupa is real nice!

  • I like Kupa.
