Thailand 10 digit telephone dialing

After September 1, 2006: Thailand mobile phones are on a 10 digit system. After September 1, 2006 the digit 8 must be inserted after the first 0 (assume business #s are landline)

Thailand land / wire telephones remain on a 9 digit dialing system. These change only effect Thai mobile telephones.

International calls, to land or mobile, omit the first 0

mobile example 1: 05 555 5555 >>   011 66 85 555 5555

mobile example 2: 09 555 5555   >>   011 66 89 555 5555

landline example: 02 555 5555 >>    011 66 2 555 5555 (= no change!)

Stored numbers in Thai mobile phones should be manually changed. The phone center software can alter phone numbers that are correct as stored!

Domestic calls

Mobile: 05 555 5555

>> 085 555 5555

Mobile: 09 555 5555

>> 089 555 5555

Landline: 02 555 5555

>> 02 555 5555

Thai Land line phone numbers have not changed .. remain 9 digit

International calls to Thailand .. calling from outside Thailand

The initial 0 is omitted when calling into Thailand .. when calling from outside Thailand omit the initial 0.

International calls to Thailand mobile phones example 2:

07 555 5555 was 66 7 555 5555 is now 66 87 555 5555

International Calls to Thai Land Line the 1st 0 is ommitted.

07 229 4681 is dialed: 66 7 2294681

Acceptable voice quality and total ease of use are provided by modern computer telephones .. we use daily & highly recommend skype!

During the Thai Coup in 2006 land lines & mobile lines were so congested as to be mostly unusable for over a week .. skype worked fine! :-)

Calls to Thailand from the US are 2.46¢ per minute using skype .. call a friend, make an appointment, discuss options with Thai provider, call hotel to confirm .. cost under 50¢ for a 20 minute call! Doh!

I watched the lead guitar player of Soi Dog Blues Band, Khun Dant, check his mobile between songs last week!
